Sections of the Esplanade will shortly be closed to vehicles as part of the Spaces for People programme. The project seeks to create a safer environment for the increased numbers of cyclists and pedestrians by decreasing the number of cars and creating more space for social distancing.

The closure as planned will allow vehicular access to the Barnhill Rock Garden from both the east and west.  The plan was redesigned with a suggestion to accommodate blue badge holders in mind.  The small car parks on the Esplanade, either side of the Rock Garden, will still be accessible (to all) and accordingly there should be limited displacement of cars.

There will be two short stretches of full closure on the Esplanade – between the Windmill Gardens and Tayberry and for the length of the Rock Garden.  There are no residential properties within these two sections.

Immediately east of Tayberry, the Esplanade will become one-way, east bound only. Residents overlooking the sand dunes will retain access when approaching from Brook Street and are required to leave via Panmure Street and Castle Street.

The closures are expected to take effect from 15th June.
